Classroom Environment

I love the Reggio Emilia Approach to early learning. Children are able to create masterpieces and it always gets up on the walls of the classroom. Sharing their hard work is something to be proud of.  There is lots of natural light and our room and is always organized in certain bins for everything, as well everything labeled and well kept. The spaces are set up to allow for creativity and exploration to be supported.

I want each student to feel comfortable to explore what is new and exciting around them. There are unique and different places for all types of learners; dramatic play, sensory tables, learning centers, library, arts corner, building, calming space, math corner etc.

The students have a large role in their ability to learn. They take responsibiltiy and accountability for their learning and discovery, the teacher fosters and observes that learning, helping and guiding along the way.  Their learning is visible all throughout the classroom and hall walls. Their hard work is seen, recognized, and displayed. Giving the students accountability for  their learning creates community. NAEYC (2016) states, when teachers can give students the space they need to play and explore and experiment at school, they learn through this play. Students need to lean on each other and support one another through this wonderful world. We as teachers will guide and help them as much as they can, however it is up to them how they plan their participation and exploration through the curriculum.
