Outdoor Education 

When children were engaged in authentic play in the Nature Explore Classroom they were developing important skills—skills that are foundational for early learning and will be important in helping children successfully navigate the world. However, one of the most significant findings of this research is that when children were engaged in authentic play in the Nature Explore Classroom, they were developing skills in a variety of domains simultaneously. This is what we refer to as whole-child learning.”

Natural environments also provide a good opportunity to learn about culture. For example, all Kindergarten students can benefit from indigenous knowledge that emphasizes people’s connectedness to the land, and promotes ideas such as respect and stewardship. (Full Day Kindergarten Program Guide)

Through exploring outdoors spaces students are able to learn in all curriculum areas.

*Get opportunities to be active at school more throughout a regular school day

*Self-exploration

*Develop and demonstrate respectful behaviour when participating in activities with others

*Roles, and responsibilities of individuals and groups

*Demonstrate curiosity and wonder

*Make observations using our 6 senses in an exploratory way

*Safely use materials

*Experience and interpret the local environment
